Swirl Marks & Spider Webs

Holograms in paint

Swirl Marks
Swirl marks are dips and valley on the surface of a vehicles paint that appear to be holograms when you look at the finish in direct sunlight. These marks are caused by the misuse of products and tools in the buffing process by an inexperienced auto detailer. This defect can be removed with the proper techniques by an experienced professional detailer like Curbside Mobile Detailing. Request a Quote

Spider Webs
Spider webs are super fine straight line scratches on the surface of a vehicles paint that appear to form a spider web like pattern when viewed in direct sunlight. These marks are so common that they even appear on a brand new vehicle on a showroom floor. Spider webs are caused by washing, drying or wiping the surface of a vehicle with a dry, dirty, or incorrect material cloth or towel.
This defect can be removed with the proper techniques by an experienced professional auto detailer like Curbside Mobile Detailing.

Paint Contamination

Paint Contamination
Paint Contamination is a very common issue with vehicles. The most common contaminate is brake rust and industrial fall out.
Contamination can be felt by rubbing your hand over the vehicles finish. If it is not smooth as glass it contains contaminates. Most people think the rough finish can be solved by waxing. The truth is waxing only seals in these contaminates.

Contamination is most noticeable on white vehicles (however it occurs on all colors of vehicles) These little brown or gold speckles are the beginning of major problems. Under a magnifying glass you can see these little metal partials embedded into the surface of the paint where they then begin to rust which creates a pin hole for water to penetrate under the paint. The most common end result is oxidation and or a bubble in the paint that flakes off to reveal a large rust spot.

Paint Contamination

The best way to remove this contamination is with a Clay Bar Treatment. Just like the name, a bar of detailers clay and lubricant is used to gently rub over the surface of the vehicle. This longtime secret of professional detailers is becoming more and more known to the average person and weekend warrior. The clay picks up these contaminates leaving your vehicles surface on the right path to preservation and smooth as glass.

This treatment is a must and is included in our Maintenance Detail, Full Detail, Exterior and Paint correction package, and performed at your location by Curbside Mobile Detailing.

Oxidation
Oxidation is a natural breakdown of materials, in this case, paint and clear coat. Preventing this from happening is one of the sole purposes of professional detailers.
This condition is a result of everything listed above, poor maintenance and lack of protection on the vehicles finish. Once your vehicles finish has reached this stage, there is little left to do but repaint the surface. And trust me, that's no fun especially in the wallet.

Paint Oxidation-1

Curbside Mobile Detailing can recommend a few reputable local body shops that can take care of this issue, but it is best to have your vehicle detailed and protected on a regular basis to prevent this from happening. Your factory finish was designed specifically for your vehicle. When taken care of properly, no product on the market will out last your factory finish.

Together as a team, we can work together to make your factory finish last forever and looking great.

What is Paint Correction?
First, lets differentiate between "Detailing" and "Paint Correction".

The term auto detailing can be referred to as the process of transforming your vehicle from the condition it is currently in, into "like new" or "showroom like" condition. This process includes cleaning, washing, light polishing... etc and protecting interior and exterior surfaces to restore the condition of your vehicle and maintain its appearance to increase the longevity of your investment.

The term paint correction is a term used by professional detailers and car enthusiasts to describe a multi step polishing process of removing defects in a painted surface. These defects include minor scratches, holograms, swirl marks, spider webbing, bonded contaminates, oxidation, etc. Basically anything that distorts the reflection of light, making the paint appear dull or less than flawless.

Curbside Mobile Detailing Before And After

This process is different from "Detailing" because the majority of the time spent is focused on restoring the paint by multiple polishing steps. The end result is very rewarding to the car enthusiast, show car owners, exotic car owners and or anyone looking to get the best possible reflection out of their vehicles paint. The paint correction process is very time consuming and can take upwards of six to eight hours to complete and in some cases even longer. The reward is a truly perfect paint reflection, or a mirror finish. Once the paint correction is completed, it is common to apply a paint coating for the best possible paint protection. A paint coating is a product that is applied like a wax, but last far longer than a wax or sealant. We use a paint coating that last three to five years on daily drivers and up to a lifetime on vehicles that are garage kept and not driven daily. The paint coating is also scratch resistant and more durable than the factory top coat of your paint surface. For more details on our paint coating click here .
